My Personal Side

I like to travel. When in grade school I got the bug to travel.  I spent a couple of summers with my mother’s Danish family in a small farm town in Bryant, South Dakota.  I saw the life of a farmer in the Midwest in the 1950’s.

In high school, between my freshman and sophomore years, I was able to spend the entire summer in a newly created village in the jungle of Peru (LeTournavista). I worked as a driver and mechanic in on heavy duty earth moving equipment.

Adventure--several memorable ones were:  9 days and nights rafting on the Colorado River. Club Med to beautiful Tahiti.  Covering much of Europe by myself for 2 months in the late 1960’s, traveling on a EuroRail pass when just out of college.  A two week trip to South Africa.  One week on a Photo safari in the jungle of South Africa and one week in Cape Town (Cape Town was more dangerous).

Hobbies (cooking and photography)

Food. I like to cook healthy vegetarian food.  Going to a workshop this year in Santa Rosa to get more into the healthy foods to consume and prepare to be a healthy vegetarian.

I am interested in promoting healthy eating for kids in school.  We need to change what is consumed.  Childhood poor eating habits lead to serious health problems sooner or later.  I know no one wants to be told what to eat.  But when we can’t take care of ourselves we count on the government (who we don’t want to tell us what to eat) to take care of us.

I love to take pictures when traveling.  To help with taking photos, I took a one week Photoshop class at Santa Fe Photographic Workshops school in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
